The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in the Panchayat poll results in Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal’s home district, Dibrugarh, followed by the Congress and regional party AGP.

As per results declared till 5 pm, the BJP has won 7 seats of 93 Gaon Panchayat President. The Congress has won 2 seats while the AGP has won 1 seat. The BJP won 4 seats out of 23 Anchalik Panchayat Members’ seats, followed by the Congress with 3 seats while the AGP won only 1 seat.

In the results of 163 Gaon Panchayat Member seats, out of the total 930 seats, the BJP won 83 seats, followed by the Congress winning 49 seats, AGP won 30 seats and the CPI (M) won only one seat.

The results of none of the 23 Zila Parishad Members’ seats have been declared so far. Counting of votes got underway at the Government Boys’ HS School, Dibrugarh amid tight security from 8 am on Wednesday.

Voting was held in Dibrugarh district in the first phase of election on December 5 with an impressive voter turnout of 73.83 per cent.

Altogether 3,214 candidates are contesting for 23 Zila Parishad Member seats, 93 Gaon Panchayat Presidents’ seats, 93 Anchalik Parishad Members’ seats and 930 Gaon Panchayat Members’ seats.
