A state level workshop on ‘Rashtriya Poshan Maah’ for the state and district level officials was organized by the Assam Social Welfare Department in collaboration with UNICEF at Assam Administrative Staff College, Guwahati on Wednesday.

Assam Minister of Social Welfare Department, Pramila Rani Brahma inaugurated the orientation workshop. The Minister in her inaugural speech, stressed on the proper implementation of the central scheme ‘Poshan Maah’ (nutrition month) which will be undertaken in five districts initially as a pilot project.

She hoped that nutrition reaches the grassroots level with a special emphasis on the tea labourers.

The other guests who spoke at the inaugural session included Additional Chief Secretary Jishnu Barua, who spoke at length about the scheme and how a coordinated and concerted action was needed to tackle the problem of malnutrition.

At the outset of the session, the director of Social Welfare Department, Debeswar Malakar presented the welcome address.

The other dignitaries who attended the inaugural session were assistant secretary, Union Government, Narendra Shah; regional director, NIPCCD, Dr Dip Saikia; DTA (ER), N N Tiwari, etc. The inaugural programme was followed by a technical session of the orientation workshop on ‘Rashtriya Poshan Maah’.

It needs to be mentioned that the Ministry of Women and Child Development will observe the month of September 2018 as ‘Poshan Maah’ all over India.

In this connection, the Assam Social Welfare Department has arranged the orientation workshop about the different activities to be performed in the field during the month of September.
