Assam government sponsored ‘Affordable Nutrition & Nourishment Assistance (ANNA) Yojana’, which aims to supply rice at Re 1 per kilogram under Public Distribution System was launched in Dhemaji district on Saturday.
Dhemaji DC Manavendra Pratap Singh launched the scheme at Dhemaji Gaon Panchayat Samabai Somiti, Nalinipam. The scheme was simultaneously launched at different Samabai Somity offices in the district by the officials and elected leaders.

The DC has urged the officials of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FSC&CA) and distributor agents to ensure transparency in conduct and give out rice @ Re 1 to the beneficiaries concerned as per allotment without making any additional charges.
He distributed rice allotted under the scheme among 10 selected beneficiaries and announced inauguration of the scheme in the district.
Dhemaji MLA Ranoj Pegu launched the scheme at Muchkhowa, while Jonai MLA Bhuban Pegu launched it at Sissiborgaon under the district.

At Jonai, Sub-divisional Officer Nisarge Hivare launched the scheme at Pub-Jonai Samabai Somiti office in presence of Pub-Jonai Zilla Parishad Member (ZPM) Atul Pegu, Jonai president Jayanta Bori and department officials.
The SDO in his address said the state government has minimized price of rice supplied under Public Distribution System from Rs 3 to Re 1 to ease suffering of the poor and destitute.
He urged the department officials and distributor agents for strict adherence of the guidelines framed by the authority in this regard.
The scheme was launched at Pachim-Jonai Samabai Somiti office at Telam by Simenchapori ZPM Subharani Doley in presence of Jonai assistant aommissioner Leena Pawe, FCS &CA inspector Subha Lahon and local leaders.
Pawe, who is taking the charge of Superintendent of FCS&CA in Jonai said the rice supply in cheap price would enable the poor families for availing affordable nutrition.
As per officials record, Dhemaji district covering two subdivisions have total 1, 35,778 Family Identity Cards (FIC) including 17,181 Antyodoya Anna Yojana (AAY) and 1,18,597 Priority House Hold Ration (PHHR)Cards.
Jonai sub-division along has a total 36,435 FICs including 4098 AAY, 32,337 PHHR cards.
The scheme covers around 53 lakh BPL families of the state wherein the beneficiaries will receive rice at Re 1 per kilogram from this month.
The scheme is expected to benefit around 53 lakh households in Assam.
