As concerns over the spread of Omicron variant are on the rise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Thursday, will chair a COVID-19 review meeting.

The meeting is scheduled to start at around 6:30 in the evening.

PM Modi during the course of the meeting will take stock of the COVID-19 situation across the country.

India, thus far, has recorded a total of 236 cases of Omicron variant.

Omicron cases have been detected in as many as 16 states and union territories.

Maharashtra has reported the highest number of Omicron cases followed by Delhi.

Notably, the Centre recently in a communication to the states and union territories said that the Omicron variant of COVID-19 is three times more transmissible than the Delta variant.

The Centre has also asked states and union territories to step up scrutiny of COVID-19 infection and consider steps like night lockdowns.
