The Land and Revenue Department of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) issues Permanent Residential Certificates (PRCs) to the permanent residents in Dima Hasao district who have latta patta.
This system continues in the district since long. As PRC is required for trade licence and even for government service, so an organised group has come up to distribute fake PRCs among people.
The group involved in producing fake PRCs has become active in the district when it was announced that no trade licence would be issued without PRC. They hand over fake PRCs to people who want to have the same against money.
But as soon as this information has come to the knowledge of the authorities concerned of NCHAC, an operation has been started against the fake PRC racket.
Various departments of the district have also been notified to accept PRCs only after proper verification.
An FIR has been lodged with Haflong Police against a youth from Umrangso, identified as Prem Kumar Rai, after his PRC was proved to be fake. Rai hails from Tini Kilo area of Umrangso.
The Haflong Police has been asked to take action against the youth.
According to Sandesh Ardao, Additional Secretary, in charge of Land and Revenue, NCHAC, stated that the Land and Revenue department of NCHAC has remained alert over fake PRCs for which fake PRC has also been detected.
Ardao also cautioned the people of the district over collecting fake PRC. He said, legal action will be taken against those who have collected fake PRC in lieu of money. He also said that the authority concerned is ready bust the fake PRC producing racket.
