The story of Tine Mena, who hails from Arunachal Pradesh and the first northeastern woman and Arunachalee woman to have successfully climbed Mount Everest, has been published by Pratham Books.
The mountaineer, born in the hilly town of Echali in Arunachal Pradesh on September 17, 1986, now has her life story penned down in a children’s stories site ‘Story Weaver’ by Shikha Tripathi, a journalist based in Uttarakhand.
The story titled ‘Tine and The Faraway Mountain’ has been written in a motivational and colourful illustrated format and the illustrations have been done by Ogin Nayam.
The story book has been prepared for school students of level 4.

Story Weaver, a digital repository of multilingual stories for children, is an initiative of Pratham Books, a leading non-profit publisher of children’s books. In this site, children can get access to stories in multiple languages.
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on his Twitter handle informing about the publication of Tine’s story recently stated: “Tine and the Faraway Mountain – story about first women Everester of North East.”
Mena completed her expedition to Mount Everest on May 9, 2011 and the total expenditure of her remarkable expedition was around Rs 20 lakh.
She also worked as a porter for the Indian Army.
The book has quoted Tine Mena as saying: “I completely let go of fear. Fear of norms and fear of society. I was neither afraid of failure, nor dying. I believed in my own strengths and nurtured my natural talent. I improved my weaknesses. And above all, I always followed my heart.”
