Assam as well as other states of the north-eastern region is likely to witness heavy pre-monsoon rains over this week. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) officials monsoon rains are expected to strike the northeast in the first week of June
“As monsoon is expected to hit Kerala on May 29, we are expecting that the monsoon rains will arrive in the northeast by the first week of June. However, several parts of northeast are likely to experience heavy rainfall in the next couple of days because of other factors,” said an official of Guwahati-based Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC).
The all-India weather summary released by the IMD on Tuesday evening stated that rain and thunder showers were observed at a few places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura and at isolated places over Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh from 0830 hours on Monday to 1730 hours on Tuesday.
RMC has also warned of heavy rain at isolated places over Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland on Wednesday and over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya from Thursday to Saturday.
The Met office forecast on Tuesday said moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder shower is very likely to occur at many places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during the next 24 hours.
