Setting all speculations aside, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Thursday ruled out the possibility of any pre-poll alliance with the Badruddin Ajmal led All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF).

“There is no alliance with AIUDF. They are not getting any strong candidates in some constituencies so that are spreading the rumour of an alliance with the Congress,” said APCC president Ripun Bora in New Delhi.

Bora was talking to the reporters after Congress central election committee (CEC) meeting for announcing the names of the candidates for remaining four Lok Sabha seats in Assam. Bora was accompanied by Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Debabrata Saikia.

The Congress is yet to announce their candidates’ namea in Guwahati, Barpeta, Dhubri and Kokrajhar Lok Sabha seats.

“The ultimate decision over the names will be declared by the party high command,” said Bora.

Speculations were doing the round that Congress and AIUDF have come to an understanding and Congress is likely to put weak candidates in Barpeta, Dhubri.

Sources in the AICC said that “possibility of a post poll alliance could not be ruled out.”

In fact, AIUDF has a good understanding with the Congress in Delhi.
