Additional district magistrate of Sivasagar district Bidit Das vide an order issued recently has reinforced night curfew from dusk to dawn (from 6 pm to 6 am) in the areas of Assam side bordering Nagaland.

Through this order, the additional district magistrate of Sivasagar district has prohibited movement of any person or group of persons or any vehicular traffic in the 5 km belt of Assam side of Sivasagar district bordering Nagaland.

The order has been issued under Section 144 CrPC, stated a government press release.

This order has been passed in pursuance of information received from various sources that anti-social elements, extremists, unlawful activities coming across the Assam-Nagaland border may indulge in unlawful acts which may result in injury or loss of human life or extortion or destruction of national and public properties in the bordering areas of Assam-Nagaland border falling within the district of Sivasagar,

The order has come into force with immediate effect and will remain in force for 60 days or until further order.

“Any violation of this order will be punishable under Section 188 IPC,” the order says.

However, the magistrate, security personnel of Army, CRPF, police and civil officials deployed on duty are exempted from the purview of this prohibitory order, informed the district information & public relations officer
of Sivasagar.
