New Zealand High Commissioner to India Joanna Kempkers on Monday evening called on Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at the latter’s office chamber in Janata Bhawan here as the duo vowed to work in the fields of mutual interests.

The High Commissioner to India who came to Assam on Saturday visited the Manas National Park and hailed the verdant wild lives available in the park. Besides, lauding flora and fauna of Manas National Park which she visited during her stay at Manas, the High Commissioner also took stock of the jet boat which was a part of Ocean to Sky Expedition of Sir Edmund Hillary.

Referring to the boat which is a part of emotional relationship between Assam and New Zealand, the High Commissioner vowed to help the tourism sector of Assam. She also hailed the sprawling tea industry of the State, stated a government press communiqué.

Chief Minister Sonowal while informing the significant role played by tea industry in Assam said that the sector helps tremendously to the economic growth of the State.

The duo also discussed areas of mutual interests like agriculture, food processing, tourism and vowed to work for the promotion of these sectors for the mutual benefits of both of geographic entities. The High Commissioner to India also invited Chief Minister Sonowal to New Zealand which the latter accepted in principle, it added.
