A team of North East Students Organization (NESO) arrived in Agartala on Thursday evening and went to G B Pant hospital and meet with the injured persons during the police firing incident on Tuesday last.

The three-member team of NESO consisted of its advisor Dr Samujjal Bhattacharjya, Samuel B Jyrwa, chairman, and  Sinam Prakash Singh, secretary general, meet the injured persons and condemned the incident.

They demanded a time-bound judicial inquiry into the entire episode.

Six including five tribal youths protesting against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 and one security personnel were injured during skirmish followed by police firing in Tripura.

The youths under the banner of Tripura Student Federation (TSF), part of the NESO, maintained 11-hour shutdown at Madhabbari in the outskirts of capital Agartala and were demonstrating along the NH-8 against the Bill as that gradually turned violent.

The apex student’s body of all the indigenous communities in the region strongly objected Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 and the Central Government’s attempt to recognize Hindu Bangladeshis as Indian citizens as it would badly destabilize the demography of the Northeast region.

Two days after the incident, the Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb declared magisterial inquiry into the incident, however, earlier in the day BJP alliance IPFT has demanded a judicial inquiry to the incident.
