As part of the National Commission for Women‘s (NCW) ongoing endeavor to bring a higher level of sensitivity among police personnel, the Commission conducted a one-day gender sensitization training programme for the Tripura Police force at the Pragnya Bhavan in Agartala on Tuesday.
Around 350 police officers of various ranks participated in the workshop inaugurated by State Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.

Chief Secretary Sanjib Ranjan, DGP A K Shukla and Sushma Sahu, member of National Commission for Women also graced the inaugural session.
The sensitization workshop is aimed at removing the inherent prejudices and biases of police officers towards victims of gender-based crimes and women in general, as well as women colleagues in particular and to develop in them the required professionalism in terms of knowledge, skills, and attitudes for dealing with cases of violence against women more effectively especially cybercrime.
A team from NCW, along with other experts in the field, sensitized police officers about issues related to the role of police in cases of gender violence especially using the new digital and social media.

Speakers viewed one of the prime causes behind the growing cybercrime especially against women and children are directly proportional to the growth of internet users and access to social media who have poor knowledge of safe use of internet and new digital media.
Experts also expressed that people are turning into ‘digital slaves’ but due to poor knowledge are unaware of consuming it safely and thus are always vulnerable and often fall prey to the fast-growing cybercrime, the biggest threat of coming days.
They also expressed that along with training of the police and the law enforcing personnel there should also be similar training for the judicial sector.
