Suspected militants on Sunday evening kidnapped a personal security officer of a North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) member from Hangrum in Dima Hasao district.

Eyewitnesses said Prafulla Phukan, an Assam police constable assigned to Iwing Pame, an executive member of the council, was standing outside the Baptist Church in Hangrum while Pame had gone to offer prayers, when a group of around 15 unidentified miscreants arrived and took Phukan away. The villagers chased the abductors and managed to capture two of them.
