Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Sports and Youth Affairs Kiren Rijiju has assured all support to Meghalaya which will host the upcoming National Games in 2022.

Union Minister Rijiju gave this assurance during a meeting with Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma and Health Minister A.L. Hek who called on him at his residence in New Delhi.

In an hour-long meeting with Rijiju, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma apprised the preparedness of Meghalaya for hosting the upcoming National Games.

Sangma informed that all plans have been chalked out for hosting the National Games in Meghalaya with regards to building of infrastructure, logistics and conduct of events.

The Chief Minister while seeking special financial assistance for conducting the games gave a detailed presentation on the infrastructure requirement.

Health Minister A.L. Hek also submitted a memorandum to Rijiju with a request to provide special consideration to develop the famed Shillong Golf Course that would turn 100 years in 2024.

After hearing the Chief Minister and Health Minister, Rijiju assured all support to the Meghalaya Government.

After the meeting with Rijiju, the Chief Minister had a detailed discussion with the Secretary, Ministry of Sports and Director General of the Sports Authority of India.

Terming the meeting as “fruitful”, the Chief Minister said, “The Ministry of Sports has also assured all support to ensure successful conduct of the games in Meghalaya.

“We are very positive that all necessary logistics and requirements for the games would be completed within the stipulated timeline,” he added.

The Chief Minister also stated that continuous engagement with the Ministry of Sports has yielded results.

Now, the Central government has recognised the importance of building necessary sports infrastructure that would facilitate promotion of sports in Meghalaya, apart from hosting the National Games, said the CM.
