Nagaland Governor PB Acharya on Tuesday said the students have a debt towards the factors that make them ‘who and what’ they are today. The Governor urged the students to work for the empowerment of the society.

“The education that they achieve should be aimed at enhancing their families, their tribes, villages, the State and the nation as a whole,” Achraya said at the Rajya Puraskar 2018 (Governor’s Award) distribution ceremony of the Nagaland State Bharat Scouts and Guides (NSBSG) at the Durbar hall of Raj Bhavan in Kohima on Tuesday.

The Governor, who is also the chief patron of NSBSG, told the students that being members of the Scouts and Guides movement increase their strength and confidence and their ability to move forward in the society.

“Organisation is the strength and community is the basis of the future life,” he said.

He mentioned that the ultimate goal for students should not only be to get degrees and earn money but to create empowerment and services for the society.

Acharya pointed out the advantage the people of Nagaland have from the rest of the other States in the country. He said education is taught through English medium in the State and the people here are disciplined and organised from the lowest level.

Keeping these two factors in mind, he asked the students to bring about development in the State in such a way that it will empower the people. “Students should not only aim at seeking government jobs but explore entrepreneurship and create jobs along the way for the development of the State,” he stressed.

He asked the students to challenge themselves by asking themselves where Nagaland stands today and how can they help prosper the State.

The Governor presented the certificates of Rajya Puraskar 2018 to 34 Guides and 21 Scouts from Dimapur, Kohima and Mokokchung districts. It is an award for Scouts and Guides who qualify by undergoing a series of tests conducted at the State level under the guidance of experienced and qualified examiners.

Advisor to youth resources and sports and president of NSBSG, Er Zale Neikha, in his presidential address congratulated the awardees and encouraged them to aim for the President’s award. He hoped to see the growth of the international movement in Nagaland which will produce respectable, humble and personality with strong willpower to take our people forward.
