KOHIMA: Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio hailed the unity of the 60 MLAs in endorsing Dr Chumben Murry, the consensus candidate of the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA), for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Nagaland, considering it a significant stride towards addressing the Naga political issue effectively.

Rio expressed these sentiments during the PDA’s coordination meeting for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, held at the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) office in Kohima.

Comprising members from various political entities such as the NDPP, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Naga People’s Front (NPF), Independent, NPP, NCP, LJP, RPI, and JD-U, the PDA underscores a diverse coalition aiming for unified action.

Reflecting on his longstanding collaboration with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rio lauded Modi’s leadership, “which has fostered significant development” both nationally and within Nagaland.

The Nagaland chief minister also noted BJP’s commitment to inclusive governance, despite possessing the capacity to form a government independently, by forging alliances with regional and smaller political entities, even those devoid of a single MLA or MP.
