Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday undertook a firsthand assessment of the prevailing conditions and ongoing operations of army’s Spear Corps units deployed for border guarding operations along the Indo-Myanmar border.
During her visit to the forward posts of the Assam Rifles, the defence minister was briefed by the commanders operating on the ground in the border areas, PRO (Defence) Col C Konwer said in a release.
Sitharaman, who arrived in Dimapur on Tuesday, in her maiden visit to Spear Corps Zone was accompanied by Lt. Gen Gopal R, general officer commanding, Spear Corps.
After having made a comprehensive assessment of the situation, Sitharaman expressed immense satisfaction on the high standards of professionalism and dedication displayed by the units and the formations of Spear Corps responsible for operations along the Indo-Myanmar border, the defence release said.
The defence minister also interacted with state government functionaries and representatives of other security agencies.
She also met with local community leaders of the area and appreciated their cooperation in maintaining security in the area.
She left for Delhi later in the day.
