Now, a person can produce ration card to get his/her name registered on the CoWIN portal and avail Covid19 vaccination in Nagaland.

This has been confirmed by state immunization officer (UIP) Dr Ritu Thurr in a notification to the chief medical officers of all the districts in Nagaland.

The notification, issued to the chief medical officers on June 17, 2021, said: “With reference to a letter received from National COVID-19 Vaccine cell, New Delhi on June 17, 2021, this is to inform you that Ration Card with photo details like Name, Gender, Photos and Age (where year of birth can be estimated) is permitted for beneficiaries to avail COVID-19 Vaccination in any CVCs.”

The notification said the step has been taken to improve the rate of Covid19 vaccination among the people belonging to the BPL category.

“This is done to improve access to BPL category beneficiaries, without other permitted documents,” the notification said.

The state immunization officer (UIP) of Nagaland instructed the district chief medical officers that “the necessary instruction is passed on to all concerned staff”.

The Nagaland government on its Twitter handle wrote: “Ration Card with Photo and other details has been included as a valid Document for Covid-19 vaccination at any of the Covid-19 Vaccination Centres.”
