Nagaland witnessed an increase in Covid-19 related hospitalization and deaths as in the last week (August 14-20) compared to the previous weeks though there was a decline in the weekly positivity rate in the state.

The Health and Family Welfare Department, in its weekly bulletin released on Saturday, said there were 76 hospitalizations in the last week as compared to the previous week’s 69 from August 7 to August 13.

The state also witnessed 15 deaths in the week as compared to the previous week’s 12 deaths.

The department said though the state’s weekly sample positivity rate dropped to 4 percent, two districts of Kohima and Mokokchung reported weekly positivity rates of 10 percent and 9 percent respectively.

It said out of the 11,053 samples tested during the week, 446 tested positive while 15 died of the infection.

The maximum number of Covid-19 deaths were observed in the age group of 46 to 60 years (33 percent). However, most of the confirmed cases are in the 21-30 year age group (26 percent).

A total of 8.27 lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered across the state in 10,549 vaccination sessions.

Dimapur, Kohima, Longleng, Mokokchung and Mon are among the top five districts with the highest coverage.

Meanwhile, the state recorded one death and 35 new cases on Sunday. There were 52 recoveries in the last 24 hours.

The department said Dimapur logged 12 fresh cases, Kiphire 1, Kohima 10, Mokokchung 10, Mon 1 and Phek 1.

Of the 52 recoveries, Dimapur reported 26, Kohima 12, Longleng 4, Mokokchung 8 and Peren 2.
