Imphal: The Manipur Government has launched an archival restoration project to recover 881 missing gazettes and preserve the state’s administrative records, with 124 gazettes recovered and 41 reconstructed so far.
Director of Printing and Stationery Ng. Roben Singh, speaking at a press conference on Friday, said 116 of the recovered gazettes were sourced from the National Archives, while eight were obtained from local sources. Another 41 gazettes have been reconstructed as part of the restoration effort.
The Directorate is also collaborating with National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), Manipur to develop an AI-powered Gazette Search system to make the records easier to access.
Alongside the archival work, the department has simplified citizen services, including procedures for publishing private gazettes for legal name changes.
Singh said the Directorate has become the state’s first paperless directorate after fully adopting the eOffice system and digitally signed file workflows.
The department has also introduced several digital systems, including eGazette Manipur, a portal providing online access to official records; PrintFlow 360, an end-to-end digital printing workflow with live monitoring; and a biometric attendance system aimed at strengthening workplace accountability.
Singh said the reforms were aligned with the broader national vision of Digital India and Viksit Bharat, with the aim of improving transparency, accountability and access to government services.
