A local committee in Mon district of Nagaland has initiated a project to help women drug users to recover and reintegrate into the society.
The Konyak Union’s Committee on Drug Abuse, Mitigation and Prevention (CoDAMP) has started the programme for women drug users of Mon district under the banner of “Monghüm”.
As a first step towards recovery and reintegration, the committee conducted group counselling for the women drug users in Mon town on Thursday.
The counselling was done on the theme – women in recovery.
The resource person for the programme was Rev. Ellen Konyak Jamir, associate professor of Pastoral Counselling and Psychotherapy, Oriental Theological Seminary, Dimapur.
The intensive counselling session, held at Konyak Baptist Bumeinok Bangjum conference hall, was attended by 12 women drug users.
The programme was co-sponsored by Beti Bachao Beti Padhao District Task Force.
The project has been conceptualised to help women drug users in line with the Konyak civil societies’ declaration of “war on Drugs”.
The “War on Drugs” has become a community movement which is spearheaded by the CoDAMP appointed by the apex civil organisations of Mon district.
