In a statement issued on Monday, the police said administrators of social media groups are responsible for monitoring content shared within their platforms and should ensure that messages, images, videos and other material comply with the law.
The police advised users to verify information before sharing it and refrain from posting content that could incite hatred, violence, panic or public disorder.
According to the advisory, any post, message or material found to be offensive, misleading, unlawful or likely to disturb public peace and tranquillity could attract legal action.
The police further stated that both the individual responsible for sharing such content and the concerned group administrator could be held liable under relevant provisions of law.
