Security forces, in a joint operation with police, apprehended a cadre of the Nikki Sumi group NSCN(K) at Thahekhu village in Dimapur on Saturday, a defence release said on Sunday.

Based on specific inputs, security forces and police launched a joint operation and apprehended the cadre from the area.

One .32 pistol and two live rounds were recovered from his possession.

The defence release said the militant cadre was involved in extortion activities.

The apprehended cadre, along with the recovered items, was handed over to the Sub-Urban police station in Dimapur.

The Working Committee (WC) of Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) issued a statement on July 20, 2021 where it questioned Nikki Sumi on his intention “to give peace a chance.”

The statement of the Working Committee read: “If his intention is what he says, why is he inviting and decorating vagabonds, social outcasts, petty thieves, multiple defectors, rank/position collectors, proven traitors and morally bankrupt elements into his fold?

On August 18, Assam Rifles troops in a joint operation with Nagaland Police apprehended an illegal arms dealer at Longsa village in Mokokchung.

During the operation, the security force personnel were able to recover eight Pt 22 mm rifles, one 12 bore gun, three air guns and 74 rounds of assorted ammunition.
