Dimapur: The Mokokchung district administration on Monday held a Systematic Votersโ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP)-cum-coordination meeting with the Longkhum Village Council ahead of the by-election to the Koridang Assembly constituency.
The meeting, conducted at Longkhum village, focused on strengthening coordination between election authorities and local institutions to ensure smooth and peaceful polling.
During the interaction, Mokokchung Deputy Commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma highlighted the role and responsibilities of the village council in guiding the community on socio-political matters and fostering informed electoral participation. He emphasised that, as an authorised institution, the council plays a crucial role in promoting awareness and maintaining a conducive environment for democratic processes.
Verma underscored the importance of collective efforts to ensure a peaceful atmosphere during the upcoming bye-election, urging the council to actively engage with residents and encourage responsible participation.
He also assured that the election machinery would maintain close coordination with the village council to facilitate a free, fair, and transparent electoral process.
Following the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner, accompanied by other officials, inspected polling stations in the village to review preparedness for the election.
