Suspected outbreak of measles has been reported from Aghunato bLock under Zunheboto district.

According to the data provided by Dr Alemwabang Aier from Zunheboto on Tuesday, a total of 50 cases have been identified from areas of Aghunato town, Shevishe and Lukikhe as on May 28.

An official release said, relevant blood, urine samples and throat swap have been collected and sent for laboratory testing in this connection.

Measles is a highly infectious and deadly disease among children which can easily be prevented by vaccination.

However, the immunization coverage has remained below 50 per cent in Zunheboto district, the release said. T

he state health department with the help of district administration is running an immunization drive under special Intensive Mission Indradhanush and also making efforts to improve routine immunization coverage for pregnant mothers and children below 5 years.

The district administration, through the press release, has appealed to all the concerned citizens to give full support and ensure that no child is left behind from life-saving vaccines.
