Bringing the healthcare facilities to the doorsteps of people, the Nagaland health and family welfare department launched the Naga Telehealth platform in Kohima on Wednesday.

Naga Telehealth is a virtual platform where patients can avail the services of doctors and specialists at the comfort of their home virtually without having to visit any health centres.

It was launched keeping in view of the difficulties faced by the patients in receiving proper medical facilities owing to the ongoing COVID19 pandemic.

Launched in partnership with USAID NISHTHA-Jhpiego, the platform is aimed at ensuring that even the people living in the most remote places have access to qualified medical practitioners and specialists.

Nagaland health minister S. Pangnyu Phom attended the virtual launch programme as the special guest.

Phom said the Naga Telehealth is a very important initiative and vital in providing quality and affordable health care facilities to everyone in the state regardless of where they live.

He thanked the USAID, NISHTHA-Jhpiego for supporting the initiative.

Director, health office, USAID, Sangita Patel, highlighted the importance of web-based health facilities and the need for proper access to health services across the state.

Secretary, health and family welfare department, Kesonyu Yhome, in his message, said in these unprecedented times of COVID19, technology has played a crucial role in keeping us all connected and telemedicine has provided an enabling tool to maintain patient continuity and patient management.

He said through Telehealth and telemedicine the department would be able to bring quality health and wellness closer to the communities.

The mission director of National Health Mission, Nagaland, Dr Kevichusa Medikhru highlighted the Telehealth platform and its working procedures.
