Dimapur: Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang on Wednesday stressed the need to improve farmers’ access to institutional credit, saying it would help them purchase seeds, equipment and livestock and strengthen agricultural activities.
Zeliang was speaking at the inauguration of an Axis Bank branch in Jalukie, Peren district, where he also urged the bank to extend its services to surrounding villages and communities.
He said institutional credit could provide young entrepreneurs with capital to start businesses, support small traders and help existing enterprises expand.
Zeliang said the new branch marked the beginning of an institutional relationship between Axis Bank and the people of Jalukie. He urged the bank to study the region’s economic potential and develop products and services suited to local needs.
He said the branch should serve as a partner in the economic development of Jalukie and Peren district, while contributing to greater financial inclusion.
Speaking on behalf of Axis Bank, Dimapur Cluster head Poujaulung said the bank operates as a universal banking institution offering financial services through retail, corporate and digital channels.
He said the bank remains focused on understanding and meeting customers’ needs and improving their banking experience.
