Devastating landslides and mudslides following heavy downpour for the last few days have caused severe damage to roads, houses, and fields across several parts of Nagaland.

In the capital city of Kohima alone, seven to eight roads have been affected and several houses damaged by landslides and mudslides.

The state capital is virtually cut off from rest of the State due to landslides at several places caused by incessant rains for the past few days.

Meanwhile, State Chief Secretary Temjen Toy has directed all technical officials to be on the road to clear the blockages.

Addressing media persons in Kohima on Monday afternoon after a review meeting, the Chief Secretary admitted that there had been some lapses on the part of the agencies responsible for maintenance of the roads.

He also urged residents not to panic as sufficient stocks of essential commodities were available and asserted that all efforts were being made to ensure that supplies were not hindered.

Toy also assured to restore the road towards BSF camp along the NH-29 diversion to medical college and New Secretariat Road where severe sinking had occurred.

Toy added that besides roads, several private and government properties were damaged, even as Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) was taking steps to ensure that relief reached the affected families.

He said there were reports of damage of properties from other districts, but most of the damage occurred in and around Kohima.
