Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) had issued weather warning predicting moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm and moderate lightning at many places in Phek, Tuensang (Noklak), Kiphire, Wokha (Bhandari), Kohima, Zunheboto, Mokokchung and Longleng on Tuesday.
An alert issued by NSDMA advised people to refrain from going to vulnerable spots like landslide-prone areas and avoid movement and overnight stay beside river banks.
Further, the public have been advised to be cautious during lightning and thunderstorms.
The NSDMA has also cautioned that due to landslide on the upstream of Sidzu River above Chakabama-Pfutsero Bridge, an artificial dam has been formed and accumulating huge water body posing serious threat to safety of life and properties on the downstream.
Meanwhile, NSDMA secretary, Rovilato Mor, has written to the Deputy Commissioner and chairman of District Disaster Management Authority of Kohima, Phek, Wokha, Mokokchung and Zunheboto, to issue high alert to residents of Sidzu/Doyang River and farmers, vehicular passengers to avoid the river banks on the downstream of Pfutsero-Chakabama road.
In this regard, the Deputy Commissioners and chairman of DDMAs have been directed to mobilize and deploy the State Disaster Response Force and other available resources for responding to the given situation.
