Dimapur: The Phomching Area Union Dimapur (PAUD), a citizens’ group in Nagaland, has strongly condemned the detention of its general secretary Tahngao Konyak by the 43 Assam Rifles on alleged false charges.

The union asserts that Konyak was wrongfully detained on September 27 from the Dimapur railway station area, falsely accused of being a cadre of the Yung Aung-led NSCN (K).

PAUD officials immediately approached the East Police Station, Dimapur, with a written clarification and pleaded for Konyak’s release.

They presented irrefutable evidence to prove his innocence, emphasizing that he is a dedicated civilian and an active official of PAUD, with no affiliation to any Naga Political Groups or involvement in illegal activities.

Despite providing compelling proof, Konyak was allegedly lodged in Central Jail without proper verification or consideration, a move that PAUD has termed as “dismayful and shocking.”

The union has expressed deep concern for Konyak’s health, as he is reportedly experiencing medical issues while in custody.

PAUD has issued a stern warning to the 43 Assam Rifles, stating that any harm befalling their general secretary would result in “appropriate action.”

The union has also appealed to the court of law to expedite the case and deliver justice without undue delay.
