Guwahati: A total of 384 disputes were resolved through mutual agreement during the first quarterly National Lok Adalat conducted across Nagaland on March 14.

Officials stated that 511 cases were placed before the Lok Adalat for possible settlement. For the process, 11 benches were constituted at the district headquarters of the District Legal Services Authorities throughout the state.

The combined value of settlements reached Rs 4,75,37,148, reflecting a disposal rate of 75.15 percent.

The matters considered during the session included pre-litigation disputes such as recovery of bank dues, loan-related issues, and disagreements over telephone bills.

In addition, several pending cases were addressed, including compoundable criminal matters, claims handled by the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal, and various civil disputes.

Among the districts, the Dimapur District Legal Services Authority registered the highest number of successful settlements, resolving 141 out of 146 cases.

The total amount involved in these settlements stood at Rs 1,65,12,665. Meanwhile, the Peren District Legal Services Authority disposed of 110 out of 200 pre-litigation bank recovery matters, with settlements valued at Rs 48,71,500.

The Phek District Legal Services Authority concluded 51 bank recovery cases, accounting for settlements worth Rs 93,07,049.

The Kohima District Legal Services Authority, on the other hand, settled 20 matters covering pre-litigation issues, MACT claims, and civil cases, with a combined settlement figure of Rs 22,04,927.

Lok Adalat sessions were also organised in several other districts, including Longleng, Kiphire, Mon, Mokokchung, Wokha, Zunheboto, and Tuensang, where multiple bank recovery and civil disputes were settled through negotiation.

Authorities noted that Lok Adalat continues to serve as an efficient platform for resolving disputes quickly and peacefully, offering an affordable alternative for individuals as well as institutions seeking legal resolution.
