Nagaland police on Tuesday morning arrested a man, who alleged misappropriation of Covid-19 fund by Nagaland government, from Haryana.

A team of Nagaland police with the help of Haryana police arrested Pankaj Gupta from Kurukshetra in Haryana

Gupta recently brought serious allegations of misappropriation of Covid-19 fund in Nagaland by the state government.

He was on the run for last several days, Manojkumar A, SP (crime), Nagaland police, said.

The arrest was affected based on the non-bailable warrant of arrest issued by First Class Judicial Magistrate, Kohima.

Police said the cyber crime police station of Nagaland police had taken cognizance of various social media trolls uploaded on various platforms by the accused.

The police said the trolls were inflammatory, abusive, divisive and prejudicial to the maintenance of social peace and harmony attracting the provisions of IPC, which are cognizable and non-bailable.

The accused had made serious allegations without basis and authentication, along with conspiracy theories, which are a threat to public peace and order, the police claimed.

He is being processed for transit remand and will be produced before the Kohima court.

The police will also investigate involvement of other co-conspirators on various social media platforms, if any, in furtherance of this criminal act.

The police appealed to the citizens of the state to be very cautious and discreet in soliciting comments in social media without verifying facts.
