The Business Association of Nagas (BAN) said illegal collection/taxation has started at the check gates in Dimapur after a brief lull, leading to rise in prices of certain commodities.

The enormous time and efforts put in by tribal bodies and organisations under the aegis of public action committee (PAC) of Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) seems to have gone futile, BAN said in a release on Tuesday.

“With the festive season around the corner, the business community was hopeful of a ‘tax free’ Christmas but it seems some unscrupulous elements have other ideas.

“It is disheartening that the business community will have to pass on the tax burden to the citizens which will lead to rise in prices of commodities,” BAN said.

Saying it was happy to see the “pretty picture” of NCD and working committee of Naga National Political Groups in the newspapers with the message that “issues have been amicably resolved”, the BAN said the citizens would surely like to know from the NCD what issues were resolved.

It said the NCD being the apex tribal body in Dimapur has started a noble initiative like the PAC.

The organization added that the business community and citizens have high hope that this initiative will continue to curb the menace of illegal taxation.
