Nagaland police have arrested four drug smugglers, including a woman from 3rd Mile area in Dimapur.

23 packets of suspected heroin, one .22 country-made pistol with one magazine, 18,000 Yaba tablets, one Scorpio vehicle and Rs 31 lakh in cash were seized from them.

Dimapur additional deputy commissioner of police T. Relo Aye on Thursday said the four were apprehended by police along with the items during frisking.

He said the suspected heroin packets were found neatly packed in soap cases while the vehicle (WB 74J 1171) seized with one key was suspected to be stolen one.

The arrested were identified as Kangba Maram, 35, of Maram village, Pavi Poumai, 25, of Phaibung village, Sho Poumai, 28, of Phaibung village and Daphru Poumai, 38, of Zeme village from Tadubi in Manipur’s Senapati district.

A case has been registered with Diphupar police station and further investigation is on, Aye said.

In another incident, two youths were nabbed from Purana Bazar area in Dimapur for their alleged involvement in extortion.

They were identified as Daniel Gurung alias Anand, 20, of Darjeeling town in West Bengal and Samuel Ahmed alias Luhit, 20, of Dolgam village Assam’s Karimganj district.

Both of them now stay in Purana Bazar area in Dimapur

Police arrested them while they were allegedly extorting money from autorickshaw drivers at Purana Bazar area.

Three contractor tax receipts of NSCN (Reformation), one non-local work permit and four tax slips of the outfit were recovered from them.

A case has been registered at East police station in this connection.

Another person Hika Achumi, 37, of Hevishe village under Niuland police station of Dimapur was arrested for collecting illegal tax from Manipur registered trucks.
