In an order, Aier said the containment zones were declared in pursuance with the standard operating procedure issued by the state government.

He asked administrative officer/sub-divisional task force for Covid19 to immediately ensure containment of the affected areas and effectively demarcate and barricade the containment zones to prevent community spread of the pandemic.

The order said contact tracing and other medical protocols by the medical department should commence immediately.

Out of the 34 new Covid19 positive cases detected on Thursday, 32 are from Peren quarantine centre while one each from Kohima and Dimapur quarantine centres.

On Wednesday, 31 returnees of the district tested positive.

Twenty-nine of them were returnees from Haryana and two from Chennai.

Opposition leader T.R. Zeliang in a letter to chief minister Neiphiu Rio on Wednesday said the alarmingly high number of Covid19 positive cases detected from among the 96 returnees from Haryana, who were now settled in their respective villages under Peren district, portrayed “a perilous future for all of us.”

Expressing serious concern over the prevailing situation in the district, he said community transmission may unfortunately become a reality soon.

Zeliang urged the Nagaland chief minister to accord “priority attention” to Peren as the district is among the worst-hit districts by the pandemic.
