The Core Committee of Nagaland Tribal Hohos and Civil Organisations has threatened to impose total Nagaland bandh on February 1 if the Election Commission of India goes ahead with the issue of election notification for the Nagaland Assembly election on January 31.

“If the Election Commission of India goes ahead with the issue of election notification on January 31 to the Nagaland Assembly election, we have no option but to go to the street to impose total bandh on February 1,” Theja Therie , convenor , Core Committee of Nagaland Tribal Hohos and Civil Organisations  said .

Addressing a press conference in Kohima on Monday, the committee appreciated the united move of all political parties on the issue.

Therie also informed that the committee had a joint meeting with the political parties and Naga political groups earlier in the day in Kohima and they agreed to go by the call “Solution not Election”.

He said CCNTHCO cannot prevent anyone from filing nominations but if anyone files nomination, he or she would be declared “anti-Naga”.

Responding to the call of the committee, all political parties in the state decided not to file nominations for the election to the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly slated for February 27. The parties contended that solution to the Naga political issue should be arrived at before the election in the state. They also issued a declaration on Monday resolving not to issue any tickets to their respective candidates for the ensuing election.
