A hardcore NSCN (R) militant has been killed at Shallang in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district.

The NSCN (R) rebel was gunned down by Indian Army during an encounter on Saturday (November 30).

“Operating on specific intelligence about presence of armed cadres in the district, security forces launched a swift operation in the area.  During search operations, the troops came under fire from the cadres and in retaliatory fire, one insurgent was killed,” said a defence PRO based in Guwahati.

The slain militant has been identified as self-styled Major Akham Chang, operational commander of NSCN (R) in Changlang district.
