The Nagaland tribal affairs department has initiated a new trend that all the staff members and officers of the department would wear their own traditional costumes during office hours every Wednesday.

The tribal affairs department of the state has taken the decision to preserve and promote the rich Naga traditional attire.

Nagaland higher education & tribal affairs minister and state BJP president Temjen Imna Along has lauded the decision of the tribal affairs department for taking such an initiative.

“I applaud the decision of #TribalAffairs Department under Govt of Nagaland, for initiating the trend of wearing traditional costume every Wednesday,” Nagaland tribal affairs minister ALong said in a tweet on Thursday.

“This will aid to preserve the Naga traditions as well as help one stay connected to their roots,” he added.

The joint director & head of the department of tribal affairs, Sino Phom termed the initiative as a humble step in regard to conceptualising and promoting the rich traditional attire of the many tribes of Nagaland.

The department issued a notification on August 27 regarding the initiative and the notice came into force on September 1 (Wednesday).

On Wednesday, all the staff members and officers at the Directorate of Tribal Affairs came to the office wearing traditional attire.
