The census of 2011 shows that Nagaland women constitute 44.7 per cent of the total workforce which has 53.4 per cent participation of males.

This was stated in the Annual Administrative Report (2018-19) of the Department of Economics & Statistics, Nagaland tabled in the recently concluded third session of the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly, according to reports.

The report stated that the rural sector in Nagaland State has a better female workforce participation rate of 52.3 per cent compared to urban sector which has only 25.9 per cent.

There is a huge gap in rural and urban female work force participation.

In the categories of workers, the percentage of female cultivators (65.2 per cent) and agricultural labourers (7.3 per cent) is more than their counterpart male cultivators (47.4 per cent) and male agricultural labourer (5.8 per cent).

On the other hand, the percentage of women workers in other workers’ category is much less (24.4 per cent) as compared to male which has 45 per cent.

As per sixth Economic Census 2013, DES, female employees engaged in the non agricultural activities comprised of 33.23 per cent and male employees comprised of 66.77 per cent.

During 2016-17, percentage of female employment in the public sector constituted 23.70 per cent to total employment whereas in the private sector it constituted 51.80 per cent to total employment.

The report further stated that during 2017, total female government employees comprised of 30.35 per cent whereas male government employee comprised of 69.65 per cent.
