The ruling People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) said the Centre’s assurance on Article 371(A) has given the hope that the Naga peace talks and negotiations are in the right direction.

PDA chairman Chingwang Konyak and co-chairman Temjen Imna Along in a statement on Saturday hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah for declaring that the special provisions enshrined in Art 371(A) of the Constitution will not be touched.

It also placed on record its appreciation to Nagaland governor R.N. Ravi for declaring that Article 371(A) is a solemn and sacred commitment to the people of Nagaland.

Ravi had also said the government of India was earnestly working to happily conclude the ongoing political process which is at a very advanced stage.

The PDA said it would extend full cooperation towards the peace talks so that the long-felt aspirations of the Naga people is realised and the protracted negotiations will result in an early, honourable and acceptable solution.

Earlier on Wednesday, BJP Legislature Party leader and deputy chief minister Y. Patton and Along, who is also the state BJP president and minister, lauded the bold and daring steps taken by Modi and Shah and the NDA partners to abrogate Article 370 and Article 35 (A) of the Constitution for Jammu and Kashmir.

The two leaders said scrapping of the special constitutional provisions for Jammu and Kashmir raised the spirit and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Ladakh, thereby paving the way for all round development and progress in the Kashmir Valley.

They said the situation in Jammu and Kashmir is completely different from Nagaland.

They assured that “in case of any such situation”, the Nagaland BJP will stand in unison with the rest of the Nagas to realise the regional aspirations of the Naga people.
