Dimapur: The Rising People’s Party (RPP) on Thursday urged the Nagaland government to show magnanimity to the India Reserve Battalion (IRB) jawans from the state by addressing the harsh realities of their life, particularly the low TA/DA for outstation duties.

The party suggested that the TA/DA for each jawan be increased to a minimum Rs 1,000.

While stating that the respect accorded to the ex-parliamentarians of the state during the Nagaland Legislative Assembly’s 60th anniversary celebration on October 29 is notable, the party requested the state government to give due respect to the brave jawans who will be deployed for Jharkhand and Maharashtra assembly elections in November.

“Our jawans who crisscrossed the entire country in the utterly unbearable Indian summer conditions were paid a meager amount of Rs 550 as TA/DA with some even losing their lives due to heatstroke,” it said.

The statement added that the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party-BJP coalition government in the state should not repeat such mistakes again.

The party felt that such a gesture would send a strong message that Nagaland is indeed a mature state having the heart and gratitude for the jawans who have been rendering selfless services for the state and the country.
