With the start of Kharchi Puja being celebrated in Tripura, the people of the state have been greeted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday.

The annual festival of worship of 14 Gods, popularly known as Kharchi Puja in Tripura started at Chaturdash Devata Bari in Old Agartala on Wednesday.

Greeting the people of Tripura on the occasion, Prime Minister Modi on his Twitter handle on Wednesday stated: “Greetings to everyone, especially the people of Tripura on the start of the auspicious Kharchi Pooja.”

“May Chaturdash Devata bless everyone with happiness, good health and prosperity,” added the PM.

Earlier, Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb on his Twitter handle welcomed all the devotees to the sacred & auspicious festival of Kharchi Puja at Chaturdash Devata Bari in Old Agartala.

The festival, which began on Wednesday, will continue till July 16, 2019.

“I pray to Chaturdash Devata & seek blessings for peace, harmony & well being of the people of our state & the country,” chief minister Deb had stated.

Tripura chief minister Deb inaugurated the festival on Wednesday in presence of the mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation, MLA Ratan Chakraborty and Susanta Chakraborty.

Of the many festivals in Tripura, Kharchi Puja occupies the pride of the place.

The Tripura government has been bearing all the expenses of the festival for the last several decades according to an agreement signed with the royal family of Tripura.
