Aizawl: At least 77 houses were damaged across four districts of Mizoram due to windstorms and landslides over the past two days, the State Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Department said on Tuesday.
According to official data, four houses were completely damaged, while several public infrastructure facilities were also affected. These include two school buildings, two church halls, two health sub-centres, an anganwadi centre and a public library.
Aizawl district reported the highest damage, with 39 houses affected by windstorms. In Lunglei district in southern Mizoram, 31 houses were damaged due to windstorms and landslides. The district also reported damage to two church halls, two health sub-centres, and one each of an anganwadi centre, school and public library.
In Siaha district, three houses and a school building were damaged, while Kolasib district, bordering Assam, reported damage to four houses.
No casualties have been reported so far, officials said.
Schools in several districts, including Aizawl, Kolasib, Lunglei and Mamit, remained closed on Tuesday due to heavy rainfall that has been lashing the state since Monday.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Aizawl recorded 57.8 mm rainfall on Tuesday, followed by Mamit (47.5 mm), Khawzawl (35.5 mm) and Serchhip (34.5 mm).
The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning in the next three days in Aizawl, Kolasib, Mamit, Champhai and Serchhip districts.
Gusty winds with speeds reaching 50โ60 kmph are likely in Kolasib district on Wednesday and in Aizawl district on Thursday, it added.
