Guwahati: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in Guwahati over the next three to four days, prompting the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) to issue an advisory urging residents to remain cautious.

According to the IMD, isolated pockets in the city may receive between 7 cm and 20 cm of rainfall within a 24-hour period. The downpour is likely to be accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds.

Officials said the prevailing weather conditions could lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas, disrupt vehicular movement and raise the risk of localised landslides, particularly in vulnerable hillside zones.

Emergency response systems have been placed on alert, with authorities closely monitoring the situation. The ASDMA has advised commuters and long-distance travellers to plan their movements carefully and avoid non-essential travel during periods of intense rainfall.

Residents in flood-prone and hillside areas have been asked to remain vigilant and watch for early signs of inundation or landslides. Authorities have also urged the public to stay updated through official weather bulletins and adhere to safety advisories to minimise risks during the expected spell of heavy rain.
