Guwahati: The Guwahati district administration has issued a show-cause notice to a highway concessionaire over recurring waterlogging problems reported along sections of the National Highway between Khanapara and Jalukbari.

The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), functioning under the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Metropolitan district, issued the notice.

It has held M/S Dinesh Chandra Kamakhya Highway Concessions Pvt. Ltd. responsible for not removing blocked cross-culverts even after multiple instructions were given earlier.

Officials said that several locations, including the areas near Excel Care Hospital, Tetelia, and Gotanagar, have been affected by water accumulation, disrupting daily movement for both commuters and residents.

Site checks also showed that silt and waste had clogged drainage passages, preventing proper water flow.

The administration noted that the company had already been directed in โ€œMission Flood Freeโ€ review meetings to clear all culverts ahead of the monsoon period. Despite this, the issue reportedly continued, affecting flood control preparations in the area.

The company has been given a three-day deadline to reply and justify why action should not be taken against it under the Disaster Management Act, 2005 over alleged negligence.

Officials have cautioned that an inadequate response may invite stricter action under law.
