Mizoram‘s main opposition Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) will field well-known contractor and newly-enrolled member Laltlanmawia for the upcoming by-poll to Tuirial Assembly seat.

The by-poll to Tuirial Assembly constituency is slated for October 30.

ZPM president Lalliansawta said the party’s high-level meeting on Wednesday unanimously approved Laltlanmawia as the party nominee for the upcoming by-poll as per the collective suggestion of the party east and west blocks from Tuirial constituency.

Lalliansawta said Laltlanmawia, who is from Kolasib town, has been actively involved in social work and church ministry.

He also owns an LPG agency in Kolasib town.

The name of the party candidate will be officially announced at a function to be held at the party headquarters in Aizawl on Thursday, according to Lalliansawta.

Tuirial constituency falls under Kolasib district.

The ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) and Congress have already decided their candidates.

While MNF will field party leader K. Laldawngliana, head of a state-run public sector undertaking, Congress has nominated former legislator Chalrosanga Ralte, who is the brother of party treasurer and Congress Legislature Party leader Zodintluanga Ralte.

BJP is yet to decide its candidate.

The by-poll to Tuirial Assembly seat will be held simultaneously with three parliamentary constituencies and 29 other Assembly seats in various states on October 30.

The last date of filing nomination papers is fixed on October 8 while the last date for withdrawal is scheduled for October 13 as per the notification issued by the Election Commission on Tuesday.

Counting of votes will be held simultaneously with three parliamentary seats and 29 Assembly seats on November 2.

The by-poll to Tuirial Assembly was necessitated due to the death of incumbent MLA Andrew H. Thangliana of ZPM, who died on August 17.
