The Aizawl district administration on Tuesday imposed complete lockdown in two localities — Dawrpui Vengthar and Mission Vengthlang — in the state capital as a precautionary measure to prevent community transmission following a surge in novel coronavirus cases in Mizoram.
Visiting the two localities by outsiders is strictly prohibited while residents are barred from stepping out of the two neighbourhoods unless prior permission, the government order said.
So far, about eight localities in Aizawl, including Dawrpui Vengthar and Mission Vengthlang, have imposed complete self-lockdown in their respective areas to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Meanwhile, three more people have tested positive for novel coronavirus in Mizoram in the last 24 hours, taking the state’s tally to 623, an official said.
The newly infected patients include a frontline worker, trucker and state resident, the official said. The truck driver and state resident have come from Assam, he said.
Two cases were reported from Kolasib district bordering Assam and one from Aizawl district, he added.
Of the total 623 cases, 300 are active patients while 323 people have already recovered.
