Mizoram to receive 18,500 doses of COVID-19 vaccine for first phase of vaccination

Mizoram will receive 18,500 doses of COVID-19 vaccine for the first phase of vaccination drive, which is due to begin across the Country on January 16.

This was informed by Mizoram Health Secretary H Lalengmawia on Tuesday.

Mizoram Health Secretary H Lalengmawia informed that a consignment of 18,500 doses of Serum Institute of India’s (SII) Covishield vaccine will soon arrive in the State.

He said that a total of 14,421 healthcare workers across the State, comprising 14,107 of State healthcare workers and 314 central healthcare workers, have been identified for COVID-19 vaccination in the first phase.

He further stated that collection of data of other frontline workers like the police, defense personnel and sanitation workers, among others is also underway.

Two doses of vaccine, which will be administered at an interval of 28 days.

“The effectiveness of the vaccine would begin only after 14 days of receiving the second dose,” Mizoram Health Secretary H Lalengmawia said.

Lalengmawia, who is also the chairman of the State Task Force for COVID-19 vaccine, said that the Mizoram Government is fully prepared for the first phase of vaccination drive.

He informed that the State Government has set up four vaccination sites for the first phase of vaccination – Aizawl Civil Hospital, Lunglei Civil Hospital, Kulikawn Sub-District Hospital and Urban Public Health Centre at ITI Veng in Aizawl.

He further said that the Mizoram Government has urged the Centre to provide three additional temperature controlled vans apart from the existing 9 to transport COVID-19 vaccines within the State.
