Aizawl: In a move to protect commuters from overcharging, the Mizoram government has announced the launch of ‘MizoTaxi,’ a new mobile application for public transport services designed to ensure that passengers pay government-approved fares.
According to an official release issued by the Secretary of the State Transport Authority (STA) on Friday, the app will initially be rolled out in Aizawl city and is set to become operational on July 1.
The app is designed to help passengers using taxis, two-wheeler taxis, and auto-rickshaws verify and pay the correct fares approved by the government, the release said.
The STA has directed all four-wheeler taxis, two-wheeler taxis, and auto-rickshaws operating within the state capital to complete registration with the MizoTaxi platform during June.
Registration will be carried out at the MizoTaxi office located below the District Transport Officer (L.A.) office at the Transport Complex in Aizawl’s Chaltlang area.
Transport operators registering during June will be charged a concessional registration fee of Rs 600 per year, equivalent to Rs 50 per month, the statement said.
However, those registering after June will have to pay Rs 1,000 annually, it added.
The MizoTaxi application will be available for download on both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
