Sangtei Khuptong , who made waves in Mizoram with her mesmerizing voice, has been invited by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy to record a song in Mumbai, which recently featured in Alia Bhatt starrer Raazi.
Bollywood was still a far cry and perhaps a Herculean task for Khuptong, who speaks broken Hindi working as a singer at one five star hotel in Hyderabad, but one night the industry’s most prolific musician trio happened to hear her voice and invited her.
The English song Khuptong recorded with Shankar Mahadevan, Loy Mendonsa and Ehsaan Noorani has the right blend and has featured as background music in the Bollywood blockbuster Raazi.
“It feels great to hear your voice while the screen is showing Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal,” Sangtei Khuptong said.
Raazi is a period-thriller film directed by Meghna Gulzar, starring Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal in lead roles. The story revolves around an Indian spy married to a Pakistani man during the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971.
Sangtei Khuptong’s voice can be heard when the lead actor Vicky Kaushal turned his tape recorder on with Alia Bhatt by his side on their wedding night in the movie Raazi.
“I hope this is just the beginning, I need to improve my Hindi accent,” Sangtei said.
The plan for Khuptong now is to Mumbai. Currently she is on a vacation to Aizawl.
“The city is like Los Angeles, where dreams come true for some, it’s my childhood dream to make it big in the music industry of India, and I am going to pursue that career,” Sangtei said.
